Royal Armouries Museum partners with Windlass Steelcrafts for replica sword collection

“Windlass visited the Royal Armouries Museum stores to meticulously study the originals and then carefully prototyped each sword,” said Jack Wanstall, Partnerships Manager at the Royal Armouries Museum.

The Royal Armouries Museum has teamed up with Windlass Steelcrafts on a range of replica sword based on original artefacts from the Royal Armouries collection.

Windlass enlisted the help of historical weapons expert Matt Easton and the Royal Armouries’ Keeper of Edged Weapons, Henry Yallop, to ensure accurate reproductions of the look, weight and feel of swords from different historical eras.

“The process to create this unique range of replica swords has been fascinating,” said Jack Wanstall, Partnerships Manager at the Royal Armouries.

“Windlass visited the Royal Armouries Museum stores to meticulously study the originals and then carefully prototyped each sword. These were then thoroughly inspected, side-by-side with the museum pieces by Royal Armouries curators to ensure the specifications matched. The results are mightily impressive.”
