Spiel des Jahres awards welcomes its first ever licensed finalist in Dune: Imperium

The Spiel des Jahres is known as the tabletop gaming industry’s most prestigious awards.

The games in the running for this year’s Spiel des Jahres awards have been revealed – and a licensed game has made the finalists list for the first time.

The Spiel des Jahres is known as the tabletop gaming industry’s most prestigious awards, with accolades decided on annually by a jury of Germany game critics.

Categories span Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year), Kennerspiel des Jahres (Connoisseurs’ Game of the Year) and Kinderspiel des Jahres (Children’s Game of the Year.

This year, Dune: Imperium – designed by Paul Dennen and published by Dire Wolf – is in the running for the Kennerspiel des Jahres category. The officially licensed game is set in the world of the recent Dune film from Legendary Pictures.

Dune: Imperium is up against Cryptid and Living Forest in the category, with the winner being announced on June 20th.
