“We hope collectors will love the design as much as we do at The Royal Mint with the coin making the ideal Christmas gift for loved ones,” said Rebecca Morgan, Director of Collector Services at The Royal Mint.
The Royal Mint has launched a collectable 50p coin to celebrate ten years since the release of The Snowman and The Snowdog, the animated sequel to the late Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman.
Award-winning illustrator Robin Shaw worked with The Royal Mint to produce the design, with the company’s innovative digital colour printing technology helping to retain the hand drawn quality of Shaw’s original sketches.
“It’s a joy to be revisiting The Snowdog after 10 years,” said Shaw, adding: “I’ve always been rather pleased when he’s around and imagined him keeping The Snowman company when we’re not looking.”
This launch marks the fifth commemorative coin from ‘The World of The Snowman’ released by The Royal Mint.
“It’s always really exciting to explore the next coin design with The Royal Mint and we are thrilled that this year we can celebrate 10 years of friendship and fun with The Snowman and The Snowdog, captured perfectly by Robin Shaw for this very special coin release,” said Thomas Merrington, Creative Director at Penguin Ventures.
Rebecca Morgan, Director of Collector Services at The Royal Mint, added: “The Snowman and The Snowdog coin beautifully captures the festive magic of a tale that has become a much-loved classic. We hope collectors will love the design as much as we do at The Royal Mint with the coin making the ideal Christmas gift for loved ones.”
